Labour Day Skiing Exhibition 2011

The water skiing exhibition changed this year. Instead of taking place on Thanksgiving, it was switched to the warmer Labour Day weekend. And instead of highlighting the Super Heroes of yesterday, it featured the rising stars of tomorrow.

From right to left we have Bradley Lewis, Robert Jamieson, Scott Lewis, Natalie Lambert, Lindsey Lambert, Sydney Lewis, Riley Lewis (age 4), Alexandra Lewis, Sarah Jamieson, Kaitlyn Woll, and Emily Woll. (click picture for larger version).

Did you miss us at the First Ever
KLA ART SHOW/SALE
Saturday, August 6th (Wanakita East - Lakeview Lodge)

Earlier this season, Toronto artists Peter Crighton, Friedbert Renbaum and Mel Delija spent time on our lake in order to capture Koshlong on canvas.  These pieces were then then framed for viewing and made available for sale in a wide range of prices on the afternoon of FUN DAY at Wanakita’s Lakeview Lodge.

For those of you who joined us at our First Ever Art Show (and perhaps those of you who wished you’d joined us!) you’ll be glad to know that we will again be running this event during Fun Day 2012 along with several other local artists/mediums. Stay tuned for some exciting news in our next update however, in the meantime, Peter Crighton, one of the 3 artists whose works appeared this past summer has created a website with images of the artworks made available last summer.  While many of these pieces are already sold, there are a number of canvasses still available for sale at the SPECIAL PRICES offered by these artists.

Koshlong Lake Incident Report Form

KLA members who observe or suspect any resource abuse or bylaw/legal infractions involving MNR, MOE, Coast Guard, OPP or their respective local municipality are requested to safely take note of as much information, including photographs whenever possible. Your first point of contact should be with the individual(s) involved – wherever safe to do so – otherwise please contact the appropriate local authorities responsible for your concern i.e. OPP, MNR, MOE or Canadian Coast Guard. A copy of all written correspondence should be forwarded to the KLA – however, please note that it is your responsibility to contact the necessary authorities as the KLA will not act on individual or anecdotal reports.

Floating Debris Notice to Members

Several potentially dangerous incidents involving debris found floating or partially submerged in the water have recently been reported to us by KLA members on the lake. Hazards such as large pieces of lumber (10 foot - 2 x 10) and/or large logs/firewood (see picture inset) as well as  branches and floating water toys i.e. noodles, balls etc. and untethtered rock markers (old propane tanks) have all been found and removed over the past few weeks by attentive members - luckily before any serious damages could happen or worse yet - an injury - to an unsuspecting boater and/or skier!

This is just a reminder to all members to please make sure to either secure or remove any items that you may have near your shoreline that could easily "wash away" with the high water levels that we're seeing this summer. If you have a shore fire, please make sure that no such logs (see picture inset) are able to roll into the lake. Likewise, any docks with loose boards should be repaired or removed from the water for everyone's safety!

Should you happen to find any such floating debris, please safely remove it from the lake and dispose of it accordingly.

Let's help make sure we keep the water safe for everyone!
